Mrs. Ellen Means Spinks, age 94, of Zebulon, passed away March 28, 2021. She was born in Zebulon, GA to the late James Merrell Means, Sr. and Ganelle Corley Means on August 16, 1926. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her beloved husband of 65 years, Gerald D. Spinks. [Full story »] 

The pandemic curtailed Easter celebrations last year but many services and events are being held this year, including the largest egg drop in central Georgia.

Christ Chapel Community Church will drop 100,000 Easter eggs from a helicopter on Friday, April 2 at 6 p.m. at the field on Old Zebulon Road across from the new church. Areas sectioned off for different age groups as well as a special needs area and parents and children are asked to be lined up and ready at 6 p.m. for the egg drop. [Full story »] 

The Pike County High School track teams dominated at the Anderson Bently Jr. Invitational recently. The meet honored Anderson Bently Jr. who has worked in Education for 47 years and is still helping out with the Baldwin County Track program. [Full story »] 

Pirates head coach Don Hanson was named 2019 AAA Coach of the Year and his team earned the state championship, making school history that year. This season, he hit a milestone many never make - 400 wins with one team, the Pike County High School baseball team. [Full story »] 

Mr. Robert Danny Green, age 80, of Meansville, passed away March 24, 2021, at Emory University Hospital following complications from Covid.  [Full story »] 

A memorial service for Mr. Jimmy Hopkins will be held on Saturday, April 17, at 11:00 a.m., at The Gathering, 456 Hannahs Mill Road, Thomaston.
Dress will be casual.

Mr. James Edward Hopkins, Sr., age 74, of Zebulon, entered his heavenly workshop on January 9, 2021.  He was born in Portsmouth, VA, son of the late John Hubert Hopkins, Sr. and Floyce Elaine Fowler Hopkins. Jimmy worked for Delta Air Lines for 29 years before retiring as a Senior Mechanic from Dept. 589. He was a Mason and Past Master of Montgomery Lodge #31 in Zebulon and the Yaarb Temple in Atlanta, a member of the Early Ford V8 Club, and a charter member of The Gathering in Thomaston. The first meeting of the group that became The Gathering was at Judy’s and Jimmy’s home. He enjoyed watching westerns, listening to classic country music, working, tinkering, fixing things, being a good neighbor and loving his family. Jimmy was hardheaded and yet softhearted, and if you knew him, you knew which way it went. He was naturally mechanically brilliant, not something that he learned from a book. He was a people person and always had a joke or a story. He had many nicknames: in high school he was “Doc,” at Delta he was “Gorilla,” his family called him James, but to most of us he was Jimmy.

The March 2020 Term Grand Jury convened March 10 and returned the following presentments. A no bill is a legal procedure dismissing charges against a defendant because the grand jury does not find enough evidence to charge the defendant with violating a law. A true bill is a bill of indictment found by a Grand Jury to be supported by sufficient evidence to justify the hearing of a case. Special presentments are when the District Attorney obtains a warrant or charges a suspect by taking those charges directly to a Grand Jury without an initial arrest on that specific charge.  [Full story »]
