Two people were injured Tuesday afternoon in a four-vehicle wreck near the intersection of Highway 19 and Hughley Road.The wreck occurred at 3:26 as school traffic was entering the highway. According to Pike County sheriff’s deputy Sgt. Shannon Moulton, the first three cars involved were stopped when the fourth vehicle failed to stop and caused a chain reaction wreck. Two people were transported by ambulance to area hospitals.County commissioners discussed traffic issues at the Hughley Road intersection at the April 27 meeting. Interim county manager Teresa Watson noted that she had requested a traffic study so signs might be placed in the area, but the DOT saw no need for signs after the traffic study was completed. Only the Georgia DOT is allowed to put signs or alter the flow of traffic on state highways such as Highway 19.
