50 years remembered on MLK Jr. Day

Hundreds of Pike County residents were participants at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade through downtown Zebulon Monday, Jan. 20. The parade included many walking participants, cars, trucks, motorcycles, the Pike County High School Pirate Regiment band and horseback riders. The theme of the year’s event was ‘After 50 Years, how can we fulfill the dream?’ The Grand Marshal for 2014 was Edward Alexander who is a member of the Pike County Georgia MLK Jr. Day committee. He served as the grand marshal in honor of his mother, the late Mrs. Mary Alexander. She was one of the first organizers for the MLK birthday celebration during the 1970s, soon after the death of Dr. King.
