On this day 8 years ago the United States of America was violated in a way it had not been violated before. The September 11 attacks were a series of coordinated suicide attacks by Al-Qaeda upon the United States on September 11, 2001. On that morning, 19 Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners. The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the buildings. Both buildings collapsed within two hours, destroying nearby buildings and damaging others.Since that fateful day a number of events have taken place – wars have been waged, monuments have been built, speeches have been given – but nothing has been able to erase the memory of seeing every television channel and every radio station overwhelmed with the news of the days events. It is on this day that we, as a nation, gather together to remember the lives lost and the strength gained not just in the financial district of New York City but across the nation as a result of this catastrophe.Below are some links that may be of interest:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixpDIZ3qYdEhttp://www.national911memorial.org/site/PageServer?pagename=new_history_timelinehttp://www.national911memorial.org/site/PageServer?pagename=New_Museum_Collectionhttp://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/gwbush911jointsessionspeech.htmhttp://www.flickr.com/groups/national911memorial/
