American Legion’s 5/10K Run/Walk set for April 16

Members of Pike County American Legion Post 197 will host an all-day 5/10K Run/Walk fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16. The first event is the pilot test for hopefully similar events around Pike County. ’This is a great family event or fitness workout. If this goes well, the Post plans to hold similar events at each of the five Pike County cities Concord, Meansville, Molena, Williamson and Zebulon,’ said commander Bryan Richardson. Participants can choose between a 5K and a 10K course starting at the Post 197 facility at 645 Meansville Road in Zebulon. Depending on the course chosen, participants will get a scenic view of Zebulon and surrounding Pike County countryside. Participants can either walk, run or walk and run either course. Unlike most 5Ks and 10Ks, it is not a race; there is no mass start. Participants can arrive and start any time between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Each course will be marked and will have rest areas where participants will get their card stamped and can partake in assorted refreshments to help them through the course. Throughout the day, a festive German environment will be simulated with German foods and beverages offered. Registration is $35 and participants may register the day of event. All who register will get a t-shirt and free snacks and beverages. Those who register late may not get a t-shirt the day of the event, but a t-shirt will be mailed to all participants. For those who registered, but were unable to attend, t-shirts will be mailed. Registration forms can be obtained on the Post 197 Facebook page or email the post at pikepost197@gmail.com. Credit cards will be accepted for day of registration. Make checks payable to Pike County American Legion Post 197 and mail along with registration form to Pike County American Legion Post 197, P.O. Box 781, Zebulon, GA 30295. ’For interested event volunteers, if you would like to help at the event, please contact us using the Post email. The Pike County American Legion Post 197 hopes you will consider participating in this family or individual event,’ said Richardson. ‘Help make this a great event and pave the way for further run/walk events around Pike.’ For more, email pikepost197@gmail.com.
