Asst. principal remains on administrative leave

By Tamara Sharman High school assistant principal Jim Williams remains on administrative leave with pay amid ongoing investigations by the school district and sheriff’s office. ”We do have an open investigation,” said Sheriff’s Maj. David Neal. “I can’t comment on an ongoing investigation.” No criminal charges have been filed, according to law enforcement and school officials. ”Our investigation is still continuing,” said school human resources director Michael Gray. Deputy superintendent Linda Tanner is conducting the district’s probe. Local newspapers have reported the allegations against Williams involve inappropriate conduct involving a female student. However, Gray would not confirm a student is involved. ”I think it’s our responsibility to protect everybody who’s involved,” Gray said. Gray believes it would be unfair to comment on the matter at this early stage of the investigation. Superintendent Michael Duncan said the district started its investigation after information came to his attention via a concerned staff member. The district placed Williams on paid leave under school and state policy. Williams became an assistant principal at the high school at the beginning of this school year. He previously was an assistant principal at a high school in Haralson County.
