Barber dies after being hit by vehicle in Williamson

A well known man has died of injuries after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Hwy. 362 in Williamson.Marion (Vern) Smith, 82, apparently did not see the car which struck him and walked into the path of the vehicle near Dollar General.He was lifeflighted to Atlanta Medical Center where he died a short time later.The Georgia State Patrol investigation is ongoing but no charges are expected to be filed against the driver.Smith had been a barber in Griffin for years and was wel known in the community.
