Bass ejected from budget workshop

Pike County’s proposed new budget debuted at commission workshop rife with citizen complaints alleging an illegal meeting. Jimmy Bass of Citizens For Accountability In Government, was ejected from the session Thursday, June 25. Several members of the watchdog group complained the budget workshop violated state law because the proposal made available to the public in the past few weeks did not contain revenues. ”Y’all are holding an illegal meeting according to Georgia law,” Bass said. Bass continued to interject his opinions and chairman Doug Mangham warned he’d ask Bass to leave if he interrupted again. Bass soon spoke out again and Mangham asked him to leave. ”If you don’t leave, I’ll have the law called and have you removed,” Mangham said. The county attorney was not present to clarify the question surrounding the workshop’s legality. County manager Steve Marro believed it was legal.
