Beau Adams undefeated at tourney

Beau Adams, a second grader at Pike County Primary School, was undefeated in the monthly grade scholastic chess tournament sponsored by Chesstronics in Cumming on Feb. 1. He did not lose a single game, with two wins and two ties. He earned second place in the K-3 category.

His performance in this tournament represents a continuation of his strong play in January’s MLK Holiday Chess Tournament in which he won four out of five games and finished tied for second place.

In his last two tournament appearances, Beau has won six games, tied two and lost only one game.
When asked if he intends to return to the Chesstronics tournament next month to fight for the first place trophy Beau said simply “I’ll be back.”

The MLK, Jr. Chess tournament on Jan. 19 consisted of five time-controlled games (25 minutes per side). Beau, 8, a grizzled veteran of the chess tournament circuit, won four of his five games and tied for second place in his section.

Beau said he was honored to participate in this prestigious event and delighted to receive a large, handsome trophy for his hard work in preparing for and playing in the tournament. He plans to take the trophy to school and show it to his classmates at the next meeting of the Kings Army Chess Club in his second grade class.

He hopes some of his classmates will join him on the chess tournament circuit so together they can compete for team awards.

Beau is the son of Laura and Joey Tinsley of Pike County and the grandson of Bentley Adams, III and Mary Chandler of Thomaston.
