Blaine Hoopes sworn in as District 5 school board member

Board of education members interviewed interested District 5 candidates in executive session Feb. 5 and appointed L. Blaine Hoopes, Jr. of Molena to fill an unexpired term until Dec. 31, 2024.
Hoopes was sworn in by probate judge Ginny Blakeney on Feb. 9 in the main courtroom of the courthouse.

“I’m super excited about this opportunity to serve students, parents and the community in Pike County,” Hoopes said. “I’m thankful for the opportunity other board members have given me to serve and I look forward to running for the position so I can be elected instead of appointed. We moved to our little slice of heaven in Molena and I hope what I do as a board member reflects what the community wants for the school system.”

He said his family moved to Pike three years ago primarily for the school system. He has one student currently in the school system at the high school.
