Bomb threat shuts down businesses

A bomb threat at ACE Hardware Thursday, Dec. 28 forced officers to clear the hardware store of customers as well as the Freshway Market next door and other adjacent businesses.

According to Zebulon Police Department assistant chief Michael Johnson, a bomb threat and suicide threat was received at 9215 Hwy 19 Zebulon GA.

“Officers from the Zebulon Police Department as well as the Pike County Fire Department and Pike County Sheriff’s Office responded to the location and the entire Freshway plaza was evacuated for the safety of the patrons and workers,” he said.

“The Zebulon Police Department contacted the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office for assistance and the utilization of their explosive detection K-9 team.”

Assistant chief Johnson said the K-9 team conducted a search of the entire parking lot exterior and interior of the complex and once the area was checked it was determined the threat of explosive devices was not valid.

The Freshway shopping center was turned back over to the business representatives, without further incident. However, store managers decided not to re-open for the rest of the evening.

If you have any information relating to the incident, contact the Zebulon Police Department at 770- 567-8441.
