Caldwell tosses Weis’ videotaped statement to cops

In the pre-dawn hours of Feb. 3, 2006, tearful murder suspect Jamie Weis was interviewed by police about the fatal shooting of an elderly neighbor during a Pike County burglary. The interrogation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was videotaped as evidence. Jurors will never view that tape. Judge Johnnie Caldwell Jr. threw it out as evidence, ruling last week Weis did not knowingly and voluntarily waive his rights. That was just one of the numerous rulings made by the judge during a hearing Wednesday, July 8, at the Pike County courthouse.
