Carl Lamar Callahan

Carl Lamar Callahan, known as Pete, age 86 of Meansville, Georgia, passed away on May 26, 2023. He was born on March 6 of 1937 in Upson County, Georgia to the late Dennett C. Callahan and Ludie A. Martin Callahan. He was preceded in death by siblings Bill, Quint, Elsie, Doug, Charles, and Ellie.
Pete graduated from Pike County High School in 1956. He served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961 as an aircraft maintenance crewman. He later attended Gordon Junior College in Barnesville, Georgia. Pete spent most of his career as an insurance agent and later retired from the United States Post Office in 2007.

Pete adored his family and left a lasting impact on the community. For many years he was involved in church as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, softball coach, and junior RA leader. He shared the love of Jesus by witnessing to others and traveling in the Callahan Family Gospel group.

He enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach and mountains with his wife Jean. Pete was famous for his delicious Fourth of July barbeque chicken. No one could compete with his “Christmas Lane of Jugtown” yard decorations every year. Working on cars and motorcycles and keeping his yard immaculate were favorite hobbies of his. Peepaw was loved and cherished by all his grand and great-grandchildren and always spent time playing in the yard and celebrating holidays together.

Survivors include his wife Sylvia Jean Callahan, daughters and son in law, Karen and Roger Mann, Karla and Reggie Blount, and Kayla and Jason Carroll, 7 grandchildren and their spouses Bobbi Jo and Michael Thurston, Matthew and Mackenzie Floyd, Joshua and Stephanie Blount, Kara and Shaughn Reyenga, Anna and Kyle Stonecipher, Katie and Tyler Toma, and Jacob and Kate Carroll, and 15 great-grandchildren with 1 on the way. Pete will be dearly missed by his family and friends. They find comfort knowing he is at peace “in the beautiful city” with Jesus.
