More than 300 Pike County citizens stopped by the courthouse to vote early by noon Friday, March 4. The last day for to vote early on the SPLOST issue is March 11 and Election Day is March 15. The five-year Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax would fund courthouse renovations and road improvements.Signs in favor and in opposition of the SPLOST are posted in yards across the county. A Georgia Easy Vote Scanner recently arrived at the registrar’s office and it significantly reduces the time it takes to vote. ’It’s an added convenience for Pike County voters and it’ll speed up the process tremendously,’ Chamblin said. ‘We scan the drivers license, it prints out the application already filled out and the voter has to sign in two places. It used to take about three minutes for a person to fill out the application and us to do a look-up and issue a ballot. Now it takes less than 45 seconds.’
