CCA students are sharp shooters; shooting sports get funds

The CrossPointe Cavalier Clay Crushers recently earned top honors and the middle school team earned a first place finish at the Big Red Oak Plantation Sporting Clay tournament. The CCA high school and middle school teams shoot in the Georgia Association of Private and Parochial Schools (GAPPS) league tournaments and various charity tournaments throughout the season. The middle school team will shoot to defend their Trap Team championship title which they have earned for the past two years at the state tournament in Savannah.

“We are generously supported by team member fundraising and National and local organizations such as the Midway USA Foundation, Whitetails Unlimited, Daniel Defense Corporation, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and multiple local organizations, businesses and individuals,” said coach Steve Fry. “We travel around Georgia and the region competing against other schools in Sporting Clays, Skeet, and Trap events. Some of our team members also participate in the Pike 4-H shooting sports program, which I also coach in shotgun and archery. The Pike County Board of Commissioners was very generous to allow the construction of the Pike County Youth Shooting Sports Facility at the old landfill site a few years ago.”

The facility allows Pike County youth and 4-H shooting sports to have archery and shotgun ranges for practice and an excellent opportunity for positive youth development.”

The CrossPointe Cavalier Clay Crushers have upcoming tournaments on the Oct. 18, Nov. 1, Nov. 8, Nov. 15 and Nov. 22. The State Championship Tournament will be held in Savannah on Dec. 6-7 at The Forest City Gun Club, which is the oldest gun club in the United States. Founded in 1883 by a group of Dutch sportsmen, Forest City Gun Club is the oldest, continuously-operated shotgun sports club in the United States.
