Chamber hosts enchanting evening on square

The Pike Chamber of Commerce created a magical evening for local families during their Princess and Hero Meet and Greet event around the courthouse square Friday, Sept. 23. In addition to a special sing along at the courthouse steps, Kim Johnson of Literacy for Georgia and Michael Powell of Pike Family Connections provided books for hundreds of young boys and girls who were able to meet their favorite princess or hero.

“Someone asked me why the Chamber of Commerce would want to host a literacy event,” said Meredith Maddox, Executive Director of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce. “I explained that we care very much about the children in our community and we want them to become avid readers because a child who loves to read will become an educated consumer, an independent thinker and perhaps an entrepreneur and business owner. We want to thank our chamber members especially those who sponsored this enchanted evening for understanding the value of literacy and offering this free event.”

“I had this idea months ago and began the planning and preparations. It soon took on a ‘life of its own! The businesses around the square really went all out and made the evening very special.”

The Pike County Chamber, L4GA and Pike Family Connections gave out more than 700 free books.

“This was the first event of its kind for the Chamber of Commerce and we look forward to making it an annual event,” said Meredith.

The Pike County Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Merchant Council will host events around the square every first Friday of the month in 2023.

“Exciting things are happening in Zebulon and all of Pike County. If your business would like to be involved in supporting events like Friday’s Princess and Hero Meet and Greet, please contact Meredith and Faith at the chamber at 770-584-5638 or info@pikecountygachamber.com,” said Meredith.
