Charles Burden earns 2024 Golden Eagle honor

Charles Burden earned the Golden Eagle honor at the Boy Scouts of America’s annual Golden Eagle Banquet held April 11 at the Kiwanis Event Center in Griffin.

He was employed by the National Library Bindery Company for 35 years and retired in 2015. Charles also served as a Deacon at Old Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Concord.

“Charles emerged from humble beginnings to carve a legacy as a distinguished entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of B&P Bonding, founder of Burden’s Funeral Home and co-founder of United Men of Pike for Progress. Furthermore is his restaurant, Yasin’s Homestyle Seafood, which not only satisfies appetites, but also became a gathering place for fostering a sense of community,” said former Golden Eagle recipient Jason Brisendine.

Charles is active in the community and has served as past Master of Concord Large 296, past chairman of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce Board, board of directors for the First Bank of Pike and the Zebulon Downtown Development Authority. He has also served as a member of the Kiwanis Club of Pike County, NAACP, Concerned Citizens of Pike County, Boys and Girls Club of Pike and board of directors for the REACH After School Program of Pike County.

He earned the Citizen of the Year Award for Pike County from the Kiwanis Club.

“Beyond the boardrooms, Charles remained deeply connected to his roots, investing in the Pike, Spalding and surrounding communities. His philanthropic endeavors, ranging from supporting local initiatives to providing sponsorships, reflected a commitment to giving back,” said Brisendine.
“Charles Burden’s biography is a narrative of a small-town man who transcended boundaries, proving that with resilience, vision and a genuine connection to one’s community, one can build not just a business empire but a lasting legacy.”
