Citizens can now honor veterans on Post 197’s event shirts

Pike County American Legion Post 197 is offering members of the community a chance to place veterans’ names on t-shirts for the upcoming 5K and 10K run and walk events in Molena. Participants in the May 6 event will all receive the shirts and most will wear them the day of the event. The deadline is April 28 to add a name to the shirts. ’As you may know, Post 197 has conducted three previous run/walks for veterans in Pike County. One area of fundraising for these events has been through sponsorship and listing the sponsor’s name on the back of the event t-shirt,’ said Post 197 commander Bryan Richardson. ‘This time, members of the community can memorialize a deceased veteran on the event t-shirt. This event is hosted by veterans and memorializing deceased veterans is an appropriate method of honoring our veterans.’ To place a veteran’s name on the shirts, a $60 donation is requested. ’We’ll help memorialize your beloved veteran on the back of the event t-shirt. There’ll be a section on the back of the shirt dedicated ‘In loving memory of Veterans.’ Lastly, those who memorialize their veteran will get a shirt. Any additional shirts will be $10.’ For those who are interested in participating in the event and supporting local programs for veterans, the early registration fee is $25 for the run (including a shirt) and $50 to memorialize a veteran.
