Cleanup continues

A week after the most deadly tornadoes in decades, residents in surrounding counties are still struggling to deal with the catastrophe. Donations are still being requested for storm victims in Spalding and Lamar counties. On Friday, the Pike County Tractor Club presented the Salvation Army with a check for $2,400 for local disaster relief. Cleaning supplies and other items are being collected at West Central Georgia Pre Release center on County Farm Road and monetary donations can be dropped by Joe Mangham’s tractor shop on Highway 19 or mailed to the address on the club’s website at pctractorclub.com. Bonnie and Rodney Smith of Williamson are friends of the Gunter family and have seen a decline in volunteer workers since the tornadoes touched down. Bonnie Smith said they can now finally see the ground in the yard they have helped clear for the past week. Workers and volunteers are still needed to help cut and stacked hundreds of fallen trees, sort metal, construction debris and even personal belongings.
