Coach Mark Andrews gets 300th win

By Greg Parrott Pirates head basketball Coach Mark Andrews celebrated a milestone on Feb. 9 with his 300th win in a victory over Callaway by a score of 70-66. It took Andrews 29 years of coaching to accumulate the 300 win milestone. In 2007, Andrews was contacted by principal Mike Maddox to see if he might be interested in the head coaching job in Pike. Andrews accepted the job and just completed his fourth basketball season. ’As a coach, I have been surrounded by many great players and assistant coaches. I am only as good as those who helped me to this milestone in my career. My love for the game and seeing our student athletes achieving success on and off the court is what has kept me in the game and classroom for 29 years,’ said Andrews. Andrews will lose five seniors to graduation this year. ‘Justin Guy, Brian Shannon, Anthony Marshall, Jaz Wilson and Marcus Wilkens will be big losses for our team, but that is the big challenge a coach has every year in re-building for the next season. Next year will be my 30th challenge and I am looking forward to it as much as ever,’ said Andrews.
