At their Sept. 30 meeting, Pike County commissioners approved speed breakers on Concord/Hollonville Road, denied a rezoning request and cancelled the regular monthly meeting Oct. 8 due to a lack of business items for the agenda.
Commissioners were split evenly on a request from the city of Concord to install speed breakers on Concord/Hollonville Road with all costs paid by the city of Concord. Their first vote was 2-2 to approve and failed, due to lack of majority. They reconsidered and the motion carried 3-1 with chairman Briar Johnson opposed.
Commissioners held a public hearing on a request to rezone an existing house owned by Mt. Gilead Baptist Church from AR to C-1 for an office for Pediatric Therapy. The request was denied because the applicant was not present and county code states that failure of an applicant or representative to be present shall result in automatic termination and a negative recommendation on the proposed amendment.
The county also:
- Approved the submission of Friendship Road and Cook Road on the FY2026 LMIG program.
- Approved a $17,000 West Road culvert replacement project using SPLOST funds.
