Commissioners hire county manager, approve funds for Pride of Pike

At the Tuesday, April 27 meeting, Pike County commissioners approved the hire of a new county manager to replace a position left vacant by Stephen Marro. After an executive session to discuss the hire, commissioners made and seconded a motion to allow the county attorney and interim county manager to extend an offer to Bill Sawyer. Sawyer, from Ellaville, is currently county manager for the Macon County Board of Commissioners in Oglethorpe, Georgia since 2005. Commissioners chose from their top three choices for the job, including Bob Thomson from Tybee Island and James Risher from McDonough. Commissioners also approved spending $1,000 to help fund the down payment for fireworks for the annual Pride of Pike event. Event planners still need thousands of dollars in contributions to continue planning the event. For more, read the April 5 edition of the Pike County Journal-Reporter.
