Concord offers land for new fire station

At their August meeting, Concord council members entered into closed session to discuss real estate and reconvened to approve giving the county a parcel of city property for the construction of a new fire station with the goal of the county vacating the current station behind city hall by July 31, 2019. Concord city clerk Sharon Casey said the council would like the fire department to stay in the downtown area and the city has offered to donate land for them to build on right across the street from the current fire station location. ’It would allow them to have a larger area than the space they occupy now,’ said Casey. Interim county manager Rob Morton said the county was aware of the possibility and will be discussing it in the future. ’This would allow the city to use their existing facilities in a manner that would be helpful for them and it would allow the county to look at what options they have as far as the fire station in that community,’ he said.
