Council considers basketball and tennis courts for city park

Zebulon city council passed several resolutions at the Tuesday, June 9 meeting and heard ideas for an addition to the city park. Rufus Clemmons, director for the Boys and Girls Club of America, asked council to help bring a basketball court and convertible tennis to volleyball court to the city park. ”It would be a great attraction to our community,” said Clemmons. “A lot of organizations could have tournaments on the court. We want a nice place for families to go and for children to be able to play.” Clemmons proposed building a basketball court and two tennis courts, one of which would be convertible into a volleyball court, for a total cost of $106,000. Clemmons suggested the pavement foundation be laid by local workers but said Flex Court would be the best material for the courts. The company would paint lines and make one court convertible into a volleyball court for $54,800. ”Flex Court is low maintenance and won’t have to resurfaced because it stays cool in summer and in the winter it would be low-cost to maintain,” he said.
