Courthouse addition underway

County manager Bill Sawyer noted the courthouse construction is nearly on schedule at the March 27 commission meeting. He said the new transformer is now in place and power has been restored. On Friday, March 30, he said the concrete footings were being poured for the courthouse addition. ’In 10 to 20 days you’ll see structural steel go up on the north side of the courthouse,’ he said. ‘We shouldn’t have any more closures unless something unexpected occurs.’ Court proceedings will continue to be held at the school building on Highway 19 adjacent to Ruth’s Restaurant. ’The Pike County school superintendent and school board have worked with us, been very professional and let us do what we need to do to hold court,’ Sawyer said. He said materials are being ordered and paint charts will be available soon for color selections. ’Plumbers and electrical workers are on site working diligently,’ Sawyer said. ’Besides the recent rain, there has been only one issue with respect to a structural beam, and that has been braced to prevent future problems at no additional cost to the county.’ The county manager encouraged citizens to enter the courthouse on the front or south side of the courthouse, furthest from construction.
