The Pike County High School boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Region Finals Tuesday, Oct. 25. The boys team earned their fifth consecutive region championship and are currently seeded fourth in the state. The cross country teams are coached by Ken Smith and Justin O’Steen.
The girls team finished second and qualified for the state meet. Cathryn Stuart was the top Pike runner finishing ninth, Bailey Morris was 12th, Jocelyn Coker 13th, Savannah McBrayer 15th, Morgan Boynton 16th and Emily Colwell 18th.
The boys team scored a perfect score at the region meet, repeating what they did in 2019.
To score a perfect score, Pirates runners finished in first through fifth places at the region meet. The sixth and seventh runners also finished high. Xander Potter was the Region Champion and also restored that honor to Pike for the first time since 2019 as well. Luke Woerner was second and became the first student to start and score in four straight region championships. Andrew Edwards was third with a new personal record. John Barber was fourth and Christian Fowler was fifth to round out the top scorers. Jack Bell finished seventh and Jack Barron finished 13th and set new personal records for the year. The boys team is currently seeded fourth in the state.
The state meet will be held in Carrolton on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5. The AAA will compete Saturday morning with the boys starting at 9:30 a.m. and the girls competing at 10:15 a.m.
