Dec. 14 is Hunter Strickland Day, Pike Youth Parade

Commissioners approved a resolution to declare Dec. 14 Hunter Strickland Day in Pike County at their Nov. 25 meeting. The full proclamation will be read after the Pike County Youth Parade which starts at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, in downtown Zebulon. The parade is open to all youth in the county and will be led by Strickland as Grand Marshal. Applications for entries are available at the commissioners office, Zebulon city hall and via vablakeney@gmail.com and must be submitted by Dec. 8. Strickland pitched several games in the World Series and helped his team win the highest championship in Major League Baseball. ’I’m here on behalf of the Pike County Diamond Club to recognize a young man who has made it to the top of his game, Hunter Strickland,’ said Greg Parrott. ‘I’ve known him since he was 6 years old. I coached him in recreation baseball. I’m asking that the county make a Hunter Strickland Day on Dec. 14 to observe and appreciate his accomplishments. Not too many young men are going to get to do this in their lifetime and we may not see it again here in Pike.’ County manager John Hanson said he hopes all the youth of Pike can take part. ’We want to celebrate all the kids and let them know what is possible if they work hard,’ he said. ‘I coached Hunter and I saw him work hard at practice and in games. We have some outstanding kids in Pike and we want to support them and the youth parade.’
