Domestic dispute leaves Spalding man dead

A Spalding County man was stabbed to death during a domestic dispute Sunday night. The killing was deemed a justifiable homicide. Press release from Capt. Tony Ranieri of the Spalding S.O. follows: A violent domestic dispute last Sunday night left one man dead and his wife being questioned by authorities. Deputies responded to 3808 Highfalls Road reference to a domestic dispute with a person injured. When the deputies arrived they located Reavarious Evans 18 years old with a severe cut to his hand and 39 year old Ricky Evans deceased inside the residence at the front door. After investigators arrived on the scene the wife identified as Schmanthe Evans 37 years old and witnesses to the incident were taken to the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. Reavarious Evans was transported by ambulance to Spalding Regional Hospital were he was treated for his injuries and released. What we know at this time according to Sheriff Stewart is that Ricky and Schmanthe Evans were engaged in a physical altercation when Reavarious Evans stepped in after his mother was struck by his father. A physical altercation then took place between Ricky Evans and Reavarious Evans, were the Ricky began choking Reavarious. The mother observing her son being choked yelled for him to stop and when he didn’t she retrieved a knife from the kitchen area and stabbed the husband. Reavarious Evans called 911 to report the incident and the mother called 2 minutes later reporting the same incident. After reconstructing the Crime Scene and conferring with the District Attorney’s Office and learning more from the results of the Autopsy from the Georgia State Crime Lab, no charges will be filed against the Schmanthe Evans said Stewart. This is a very tragic incident that took place and the only findings the investigators could determine were that Schmanthe Evans was trying to protect her son. According to other documents received this was not the first incident involving violence with Mr. Evans. According to family members the couple had fought constantly over the years. According to the District Attorney’s Office the case will be prepared and presented to the next Grand Jury of Spalding County.
