Driver in fatal wreck identified

Pike County Sheriff’s Office traffic investigators responded to a collision on Highway 362 near Hutchinson Road at 1:06 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1. A Honda Civic traveling westbound crossed the centerline striking a Mitsubishi Montero head on, with two injured and the driver of the Civic found deceased at the scene. The driver of the Honda has been identified as Billy Kerlin III of Zebulon. His funeral is set for this Sunday. The driver of the Honda Civic was deceased at the scene while two occupants from the other vehicle were transported to Spalding Regional Hospital with injuries. Investigators did not immediately release the identity of the deceased individual as he had no identification. In addition a pipe suspected to be used to smoke methamphetamine was located in the Honda Civic and the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Forest Park. The investigation remains on going and updates will be sent accordingly.
