During the early morning hours of Tuesday Sheriff’s Deputies blocked off a portion of Jackson Road near Bailey Jester Road and turned around all traffic. According to Sheriff Stewart this was done to protect the citizens traveling on that road while the Georgia State Patrol SWAT Team assisted investigators of the Sheriff’s Office with the execution of a search warrant.According to Spalding County sheriff’s reports, there were two parts to the search warrant; the first part was to apprehend two Mexican males Felix Solis and Santiago Garcia Diaz who are part of a Mexican drug cartel who were wanted by Clayton County authorities. Because of the violence that has occurred dealing with the cartels the SWAT team was used to make the entry onto the property and to secure the area for investigators to conduct their investigation. The second part of the search warrant was to obtain evidence pertaining to a unsolved homicide that happened on Jackson Road in November of 2008. Because of the sensitivity of the homicide investigation no other information can be released at this time according to Stewart.Once the SWAT Team secured the property, investigators assisted by the Sheriff’s Special Operations Unit began the search of the property. Solis and Diaz were not located on the property and are still at large. Investigators conducted the Forensics search of the property and gathered evidence pertaining to the homicide investigation. Two adults and four children were on the property during the search but were released after being interviewed by investigators. The Jackson Road area was only shut down for a short period of time and was re-opened before 7 a.m.
