Two hundred and ninety-nine Pike voters took advantage of the first two weeks of early voting with 20 voters casting their ballots on a special day of early voting Saturday, May 12. Early voting at the Pike County registrar’s office and at Zebulon City Hall will end this Friday, May 18. ’Avoid the lines and vote early,’ said Pike registrar Sandi Chamblin who noted that an average of about 20 citizens cast their ballots each day during early voting. ‘Hopefully we’ll have a better turnout on Election Day.’The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day next Tuesday, May 22 as voters decide who the state’s next governor will be along with several federal and state elections. Voters in the city of Zebulon will decide whether or not to allow liquor sales by the drink in the city limits. Several local candidates will be on the ballot but will be running unopposed.
