Elementary students in need get guiding light

A lighthouse board has been placed at the front desk of the elementary school to help gather materials for children in need. Members of Friendship Presbyterian Church initiated a partnership with counselor Patti Rutledge to help meet some of the immediate needs of students. The lighthouse board matches the school’s nautical theme and reads Be A Guiding Light. ’We have hooks with little tags to write the needs on,’ said organizer Robin Humphreys. ‘For instance if a teacher has a student in their classroom who needs a pair of shoes, that teacher could go to display and write boys size 6 shoe needed.’ The student in need will remain anonymous, with only the teacher and item needed listed on the board. Members of area churches and the community are asked to stop by and fill the students’ needs. Rutledge said three pairs of shoes have already been provided for students who needed them this year.
