Five rescued from Flint River

By Kay S. Pedrotti For Kevin Anthony, his brother and three friends, a lazy trip down the Flint River on inner tubes was an unforgettable experience. Five young adults from Pike County, ages 18 to 24, left Highway 18 bridge in Pike County Saturday, intending to tube to Sprewell Bluff. They didn’t quite make it. Kevin and his brother Casey, Victoria Brannon, Rachel Cox and Katie Pollick stopped several times along the way to swim, he said. They asked the time of a person on the bank; it was 6:30 p.m. and they were only about halfway to the bluff. Penny Anthony and other families notified the Upson County sheriff’s office the young people were missing. The Upson sheriff’s office, Thurston fire department and Upson Rescue got them out by land. ’We were cold, hungry, thirsty and sunburned,’ he says.
