FLASH FLOOD WATCH: Buses could be delayed by deluge

Heavy rain – as much as 7 inches – is expected in Pike in the next 24 hours and could cause delays to bus routes this afternoon. School bus delays will more likely be caused in the morning due to impassable roads. Pike County is under a Flash Flood warning through Friday morning, along with 85 other Georgia counties. Periods of heavy rainfall are expected as the outer bands of Hurricane Sally travels inland, then weakens and moved across Georgia Thursday into early Friday. Soils are expected to become quickly saturated and runoff from the heavy rains will lead to a threat of flash flooding. Some rivers, small creeks and streams could also flood during and after the watch period.
