The bridge on Flat Shoals Road at the Flint River was suddenly blocked off at both ends with large piles of gravel recently.
Sources tell the Journal-Reporter there are substructure problems with the bridge including unstable pilings which make the bridge unsafe for traffic. Unless the project is prioritized, DOT isn’t scheduled to let bids for replacing the bridge until 2028, which could indicate a completion date in late 2029 or early 2030.
In the meantime, avoid the area unless you want to fish.
