Fundraiser for fallen soldier

A fundraiser sponsored by the American Legion Post 197 and family and friends of Lance Cpl. Jeffrey Walker will raise funds to memorialize his service at an Aug. 24 event from 4 to 9 p.m. on the Zebulon courthouse square.Walker was a 2004 Pike County High School graduate. He lost his life during his second tour of duty in Iraq. ’We’re raising funds for a memorial to be placed in the old middle school building to honor Lance Cpl. Walker and his sacrifice for our freedom,’ said Post 197 chaplain Ben Maxedon. ‘Please come out and join us. There will be live music, a car cruise in, a motorcycle ride in, good food and fun for the kids. So grab your lawn chair or blanket and be part of this fun filled day for a great cause.’For interested citizens who cannot make it to the event, tax deductible donations may be mailed to the Pike County American Legion Post 197 at P.O.
