We wish you a Happy Thanksgiving from the Pike County Journal Reporter! May you have much more to be thankful for in the coming year.Students across the county learned about the history of the first Thanksgiving last week before their week-long break to enjoy the national holiday. Thanksgiving as we know it today stems from a feast held in the autumn of 1621 and attended by Pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians to celebrate the colony’s first successful harvest. According to Scholastic, English colonists celebrated days of thanksgiving as part of their religion, but they were days of prayer, not feasting.Students from pre-K teacher Pam Vickers’ class performed a show for all other pre-K students Thursday, Nov. 21. Each year, students in Vickers’ pre-k class write the Thanksgiving story in their own words after learning the history of the first Thanksgiving. Then they perform the play for other students using the script they wrote.
Give thanks this Thanksgiving
