Help local school system by shopping at Freshway

Teachers, staff and administrators with great ideas will get a chance to see their ideas become reality thanks to Pirate Nation Innovation and Freshway Market. Shoppers at the grocery store can opt to round their purchase up to the next dollar, with the change going to the school system for classroom grants. ’We are proud to be able to collect money for local classrooms so teachers can get grants to help their students,’ said Freshway Market manager Steve Ward. ‘It’s another great way we can support the community.’Pirate Nation Innovation is a crowd sourcing platform that will allow school employees to submit their ideas and give other employees a chance to vote on the best ones. The ideas will be funded by the Pirate Round Up at Freshway Market where customers can select the option to roundup their bill to the next dollar at check out. In just the first few weeks of the program, the local grocery store has already presented more than $1,000 to the school system for later use as grants. ’Pirate Nation Innovation is a platform that will allow us to uncover some great ideas our employees have to improve our school system,’ said superintendent Dr. Michael Duncan. ’Employees can submit their great ideas about what to do in the classrooms, libraries or schools in general and then others will rate them and the best ideas will rise to the top. Those with the best ideas will be taken to a human center design workshop to learn how to work through their idea and to get their idea started in January. We appreciate the help of Freshway Market in Zebulon for helping make our school system better by helping fund our great ideas!’School system employees will begin submitting ideas for grants on Sept. 7 and after the top ideas are selected, they will be implemented in January using funding collected at Freshway Market. In addition to helping with the Pirate Nation Innovation grants, Freshway Market also supports local coaches and athletes through Bag for Bucks a program that lets them bag groceries for tips to support their teams.
