Ison named president at WellStar Spalding Regional and Sylvan Grove

WellStar Health System recently named Tamara Ison senior vice president and president of WellStar Spalding Regional Hospital and WellStar Sylvan Grove Hospital. In her new role, Ison will continue the mission of both hospitals to provide comprehensive medical care to residents of Spalding, Pike, Lamar, Butts and Henry counties. ’Tamara Ison’s operational skill paired with her love for serving the community will be a great asset for the patients of WellStar Spalding Regional and Sylvan Grove hospitals,’ said Carrie Owen Plietz, FACHE, executive vice president and chief operating officer of WellStar’s Hospital Division. ‘To Tamara, patients are her neighbors, family and friends. Her deep community roots and outstanding track record are a winning combination that will allow WellStar to provide its patients with world-class healthcare right here in the community.’ A long-time resident of Spalding County, Ison served previously as chief operating officer for Spalding Regional Hospital, where she was responsible for growth and cost control. She provided key leadership resulting in a $7 million expansion of the Emergency Department. Ison holds a B.S. in Management from Georgia Institute of Technology. She has served in numerous community leadership roles, including as president of Spalding County United Way and as a member of the Executive Committee for the Archway Partnership at the University of Georgia and Rotary International. On April 1, WellStar acquired Tenet Healthcare’s five Georgia-based hospitals ‘“ including the two Ison now leads. They are now operated as not-for-profits, ensuring funds are reinvested back into the community with new treatments, technologies and facilities.
