Jane Howard Moore

Mrs. Jane Howard Moore, age 95, of Griffin, passed away June 28, 2024, at Eternal Hope Hospice. Jane was born in Manchester, and after the death of her father at the age of 5, her mother moved her and her sisters to Griffin. She was the daughter of the late Robert Howard and Kittie Ball Howard. She graduated from Spalding High School and then went to work at Ft. Gillem in Forest Park where she met and married, within 3 months, the love of her life, Alvin G. Moore, who was serving in the US Air Force. They traveled the world together, living wherever he was stationed. As a test pilot, he was given some incredible assignments, and they made their home in many countries, including England, Italy and France. Jane loved living in each of these places and loved being an officer’s wife. She made many friends that she never lost touch with. After the birth of their daughter, Lt. Colonel Moore retired, and they moved to Pike County to be near Jane’s family.

Jane worked at the Spalding County Tag Office and Commercial Bank in Griffin. After the devastating death of her husband, Jane went to work at First Bank of Pike in Zebulon. She stayed with FBP for 19 years, retiring at the age of 82. She loved being a part of this bank and the Barker family. She enjoyed shopping, playing bridge with her ladies’ group, following the Dawgs, and spending time with her granddaughters. At a young age, Jane was baptized at First Baptist Church in Griffin but after returning to Georgia, joined Mt. Gilead Baptist Church where she was the treasurer for many years and still a member.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin G. Moore, twin sister, Jean Essary, older sister, Bobbie Hubbard, niece, Connie Smith and niece, Cody Callahan.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Tomi and Mike Rich; granddaughters: Anna Rich and Kayli Rich; nephews: Donald Smith and Sandy Callahan; niece, Robin Hubbard; bonus son and daughter-in-law: Lewis and Krissy Hester and their family; and other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
