Young mother and Pike County native Heather Phillips is fighting brain cancer and her family and friends are hosting the Keeping Heather Strong benefit softball tournament Saturday, Oct. 1 to help with medical expenses. Just days after going to the doctor for persistent migraines, she underwent surgery for brain cancer. She faces ongoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments as well.The Keeping Heather Strong benefit event will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Volunteer Park in Griffin and will feature food, vendors, the Balloon Man, raffles and more. She is engaged to be married to Christopher Henderson. She goes to Christ Chapel Community Church in Zebulon and enjoys running and other competitive sports.
