Kenneth Newman memorial held today

A memorial service is scheduled at 4 p.m. today, Thursday, for the Pike County man who died from a house fire earlier this week. The memorial service for 51-year-old Kenneth Newman will be held at the chapel at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home in Griffin. Friends are invited to visit the grieving family following the memorial service. Newman died from smoke inhalation due to a fire at his Shackleford Road home early on Tuesday. Pike County Emergency Services responded to a blaze at Newman’s one-story home at 5:30 a.m. that day. Arriving firefighters found that the flames had been confined by two passersby with a garden hose. Firefighters then entered the home and snuffed the remaining flames. While searching for occupants, firefighters discovered Newman, who was unconscious in a bedroom, according to Fire Chief Danny Henderson. Newman died despite extensive medical aid rendered by PCES personnel and an ambulance crew, Henderson said.
