Members of the American Legion Post 197 will hold an induction ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 for four veterans from Pike who were Killed In Action, including Pvt. Charlie Tidwell, LCpl James ‘Jimmy’ Harris, LCpl Glenn ‘Ricky’ McCuaig and LCpl Lonnie Silver. The ceremony will be held at the Pike County Memorial Annex and is open to the public. ’These four great Americans gave the ultimate sacrifice during combat,’ said Post 197 commander Bryan Richardson. During the ceremony, biographies will be read for each inductee, the history of the Purple Heart Medal will be told and a shadow box honoring each inductee will be unveiled. These four men who were Killed In Action are currently listed on the Pike Veteran’s Memorial on the courthouse square. Pike commissioners proclaimed Nov. 7 as Pike County Military Killed In Action Recognition Day. The Tidwell, Harris, McCuaig and Silver families will be guests of honor and the Pike County community is invited to attend this ceremony in honor of these four heroes and their families. Tidwell, of Meansville, served with the U.S. Army during WWII. Harris, of Williamson, served with the U.S. Marines in Vietnam. McCuaig, of Meansville, served with the U.S. Marines in Vietnam. Silver, of Concord, served with the U.S. Marines in Vietnam. ’If the weather is good, the ceremony will be outside,’ said commander Richardson. ‘Please bring lawn chairs to guarantee a seat. If weather is bad, the ceremony will be held inside in one of the alternative learning classrooms.’
