The Pike County High School Lady Pirates softball team added another win to their 9-3 record last week as they shut out Jackson High School 4-0 and fell to Locust Grove 7-2.
Jamie Corbin threw a complete game shutout on Sept. 14, pitching seven innings while allowing only three hits and picking up three strikeouts.
The Lady Pirates offense put two runs on the board in the second inning as Alana Crenshaw singled on a line drive to right field. Courtesy runner Marissa Hanson stole second then advanced to third on a pass ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Callie Williams. Aubrey Reese reached base on an error, stole second and another error allowed her to score the second run.
In the fourth inning, Lily Alpough was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a pass ball and was bunted over to third by Bailee Brown who was safe at first. Emma Smith got the RBI on a hit to second and Brown advanced to third where she scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0.
Locust Grove picked up an early lead in their Sept. 13 victory over the Lady Pirates. Madi Neal and Alana Crenshaw had multiple hits for the Lady Pirates but their offense wasn’t enough to overtake Locust Grove who had 10 hits for the day.
