The Lady Pirates blasted their way to the Sweet 16 by defeating Burke County in back-to-back games Wednesday, Oct. 13.
The Lady Pirates will host the Oconee County Lady Warriors in the first round of Sweet 16 play at Lady Pirate Field on Wednesday, Oct. 20 with games set for 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
“We need you all to come out and support these ladies against a very strong Lady Warriors squad,” said head coach Kevin Mobley. “It should be a fun and exciting series. Make plans to be there!”
In the first game of their Oct. 13 double header, Burke County scored their first run in the first inning but the Lady Pirates answered back in an explosive third inning as they added five runs to the board. They stayed strong offensively for the rest of the game, adding four more runs in the fourth and four in the fifth. Bailee Brown, Emma Smith, Shelby Duncan, Alana Crenshaw and Lily Alpough all had two hits for the Lady Pirates. Alana Crenshaw hit a homerun and a double and picked up four RBI in the victory. Jamie Corbin picked up the win as she pitched all five innings, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out three.
In the second game of the playoffs, the Lady Pirates shut out Burke 8-0 as Haley Perkins pitched all five innings, allowing only two hits and no runs while striking out five and walking none. Callie Williams led the team offensively as she went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and two RBIs.
