The sights and sounds of Christmas will soon be heard and seen across Pike County. In Concord, the big Christmas tree will be lit Friday, Nov. 30 during the annual Lighting of Concord. A special visit from Santa Claus will light little boys’ and girls’ faces with smiles. Festivities will begin at 5 p.m. as suppers including hot soup, chili, baked potatoes and hamburgers will be served at several locations along Main Street. Families and friends can gather around crackling fireboxes in downtown Concord or snuggle up for a hayride as they await the arrival of Santa. He will be flying in ‘“ not with his sleigh and reindeer but in a helicopter, which will land in the open field next to the historic Strickland Store. ’Visit our Christmas Bazaar and find those last minute Christmas gifts for your someone special,’ said event organizer Anita Neath. ‘Sing along to the Christmas carols as we light the Big Tree.’Last year’s Lighting of Concord brought hundreds to Concord to share the spirit of Christmas. The crisp winter chill didn’t keep anyone from enjoying the beautiful decorations downtown or shorten the line of good little girls and boys awaiting their visit with Santa Claus.
