Local business celebrates 43 years

This year marks the 43 year anniversary of Bragg Roofing, which was established on October 16, 1983.

What started as a small company founded with his three brothers – Tim, Tom and David – has grown to cover eight counties (with Pike as the nucleus) and is still going strong with Les and his son Avery helping run the business.

“I still supervise every job. You’ve got to have a supervisor and you have to inspect what you expect,” said Les, noting that he has received very few complaints in 43 years of work. “It’s been a long road, but it’s been rewarding. It feels great to do a good job and I pass homes every day where we have replaced their roofs.”

Les shared how the business started with his brothers and a hired helper or two and reflected on how much safer the job is now with better materials available as well. He noted that Bragg Roofing is fully insured and always has competitive pricing. They provide roofing for new construction and install metal roofs and modified roofs. Ninety-nine percent of all work done is residential tear-off, in which they specialize.

Les retired as a law enforcement officer and is a U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War. He was putting up a new flag at his Zebulon office when the Journal Reporter visited.

“This is still America and so many people have died for this flag,” he said. “This flag is for every American.”

The Bragg Roofing building has hosted decades of good music with local musicians – and sometimes famous musicians – visiting to jam and play together. The building includes a music studio with walls signed by musicians from near and far. In addition to a stage built for a drummer and musical equipment, there are records lining the walls and even CDs of local bands’ music thumbtacked to the walls. Les said COVID put a damper on the music but he hopes to get the music going again soon.
