The first amendment would allow for state funded charter schools. The second amendment would allow the General Assembly to allow certain state entities – including the State Properties Commission, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia and the Department of Labor – to enter into multiyear rental agreements. Voter turnout is expected to be high as early voting numbers nearly broke the previous record set in 2008. ”I believe we are going to have a strong turnout for this election,” said registrar Sandi Chamblin. “We had 16 days of early voting versus 45 days of early voting in 2008 and we beat the 2008 record by 32 votes this year in 29 fewer days.” Polling places throughout the county will be open from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. If advance voting turnout is any indication, those polling places will be busy. When the early voting period ended Friday, 4,034 voters had cast advance ballots. ”There was a steady stream of voters all during early voting and they didn’t have to wait long with our E-Z vote,” Chamblin said. “On our day of early voting Saturday, we saw about 375 voters in just seven hours.” Chamblin predicts a turnout of around 88% to 89% for this election. ”It’s a big election year,” she said. “People are really hurting financially and what else can they do but vote and hope things get better.” Pike County has a total of 10,630 active, registered voters eligible to vote in the general election. *************** ©The Journal Reporter/pikecountygeorgia.com: This information may not be reprinted, broadcast or distributed electronically in any form or fashion without express consent.
