“Mad Maddie’, 11, wants Daytona 500 title

Madeline Crane, 11, of Meansville craves speed and dreams of a NASCAR career. ”I want to be the first girl to win the Daytona 500,” says the girl, who is known as “Mad Maddie” to the racing crowd. ”I hope to have her in the Daytona 500 about 10 or 12 years from now,” said grandfather Virgil Brown, a Concord resident. ”She’s got big dreams,” noted Tonya Crane, her mom. “Her dream is to make it all the way to the top.” Mad Maddie took a step toward her NASCAR goal when she won the Bandolero Promoter’s Choice race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway June 18 during one of the Thursday Thunder events.
