A golf tournament to benefit children with disabilities – hosted by Children of the Promise in Pike – will be held Saturday, May 30 at The Club at Shoal Creek in Griffin. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. with the shotgun start at 1 p.m. ’Children of the Promise is a ministry designed to help families with disabilities. We want these families to know there is a place to come worship and receive ministry for you and your children,’ said BJ Lawrence. ‘We, as parents of special needs children, know quite well the hardships it can have on a family and we feel it is important to offer support and encouragement.’The cost is $260 for a four-person Ft. Lauderdale team and includes green fees, cart, range balls, barbecue chicken plate and one prize ticket. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place teams as well as Closest to the Pin, Longest Putt and Longest Drive awards. There is a $5 entry for the putting contest before the tournament, $5 for a mulligan and $5 for a chance to win prizes. The funds from the golf tournament will go to fund the third annual Sensory Fall Festival for kids with disabilities and their families at the Pike Assembly of God on Highway 19 south in Zebulon. ’We look forward to our third annual Sensory Fall Festival this year and are excited to announce we are adding a Summer Event – Pets at the Pavillon on Aug. 1,’ said Lawrence. ‘These events give us an opportunity to meet more special needs families in Pike and surrounding counties and extend our hand of support in fun, fellowship and the love of Jesus.’Barbecue chicken plates will be sold for $7 each for anyone interested who is not playing the tournament. Plates include chicken, baked beans, slaw, bread, drink and dessert. Sponsorships for the event are still available and offer a variety of advertising levels which could include a large banner with logo at the tournament and fall festival, a four member team registration, the business or personal name on all printed material, recognition in local media and recognition at the tournament and fall festival. Hole sponsorships are $100 and offer signage on the tee box or green. Minit Car Wash is the first bronze sponsor for the tournament. For more information, call 770-567-1594 or 770-468-9209.
